Riding the length of Germany. South to North.

In late August 2026 I will be riding from the Southernmost to the Northernmost tips of Germany.

I will doing the ride in memory of my son James who passed away in 2024 and also to raise awareness of Organ Donation. You can read more here

This is an adventure I've been thinking of doing for several years and I've finally booked a flight to Bavaria.

I will mostly be camping, so I needed to try out my bike and equipment. So I set out on a 50 mile ride into Kent, carrying everything I will need for a 2 week ride in Germany.

My loaded bike, a Dawes Ultra Galaxy from 2010

I stayed at a quiet campsite in Westwell, near Ashford. All my kit worked fine and although the bike was heavy I coped with some steep hills.

The tent is a bit heavy, but has plenty of room. I'm still in two minds whether to use a different one.

My spot for the night.

The following morning I rode home via the Pilgrims way. This mural is on the side of the newly reopened Dirty Habit pub.

Carlisle to Cardiff ChallengeTour

After a blistering Friday evening finally set off on the Tour today. train from Strood up to London then a brief Ride Across to Euston to meet  three other tourists. We quite easily packed our bikes into the bike space. Which was a surprise as we heard lots of bad stories about there not being enough room.

It was great to be in air conditioned comfort at last after the heatwave of the last 4 days.

Although we are in Carlisle, North England it's  still very hot and I've cheaped by booking a Travelodge which only has a semi opening window and a fan unfortunately. So the sensible thing to do is to go and drink beer and catch up with the other riders.
